FC St Gallen game

Evening everyone, hope you're all well.

So, it's lockdown, and I've successfully catalogued all my old programmes - various house moves have whittled them down over the years, but hey-ho. Anyway, after cataloguing them, I decided to go back and log the scores of the game. And there's one programme that I can find no reference to in the excellent archive section...

21 April 1973, Hendon hosted FC St Gallen in a Challenge match. But no reference to it in the archive section. Anyone have any recollection or record of it? Appreciate as it's a mid-season friendly it might not feature, although the 1991 friendly against Al-Jahra of Kuwait is listed.

Anyone?

That game, which Hendon won 2-0, is in my records with our line-up. I'll see if John can add it to the archive, failing that, I'll see if he can give me access and instructions on updating the archive so that I can do it myself.

Matt Shotter Query On Fans Facebook

I can confirm via press cuttings the outcome of the Dagenham game. Hendon won. No score obtainable. The reserves won four trophies that particular campaign - The Herts/Essex Border Combination West division title was gained and Hendon subsequently defeated Hornchurch Res from the East Division in a play-off final at Rainham to win the overall championship. The press clipping also states victory in the League Cup Final tie and another cup competition was ascertained, something known as the Fred Budden Trophy.

It would be helpful to have Matt Shotter's query posted to this Forum so that those of us who do not use Facebook are aware of it; we may have access to useful information.

This goes for any queries posted to the club's Facebook and/or Twitter accounts - not all of us are willing to use such social media apps.

Of course your right Chris! I'm a complete duffer! To be fair, I've had a 'normal' blood/alcohol level for the past 2 months, couple that with not being allowed to escape Telford and that may well tell you all where I'm currently at! Matt was requesting any details surrounding a Combination Cup Final game for the Reserves dated Wed 13 May 1981 vs The Daggers.
I also have the match report for the Gallen game above. The 'quality' - yes that word again is dire. I will leave the line-ups to Mr B, but just as a footnote the goalscorers in the 2-0 win were Phil Fry 8mins and Jimmy Wilsonham on 35. The Gallen squad was on a four day £60-a-head visit to London and the game, despite being classed as a 'challenge match' was described as nothing really more than a training session.
I miss beer!

For general information, the website archive has little information on the reserves, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, when I was researching various years (1943 - 1978) of the Hendon Times at the British Newspaper Library when it was in Colindale, I felt it more important to concentrate on first team matches, even though for the most part I failed to note opposition line-ups (when given) and did nothing about acquiring match reports. Secondly, most reports on reserve matches were sketchy in the information given, and from memory most reports omitted line-ups.

What we do have has either been from observation or reports passed to my son Steve when he was updating the site, or very occasionally from old programmes.
