Needham Context

I don't know what to make of tonight. How much to directly contribute to the travel, the competition, availability of personnel, the performance or even the desire. Irrespective of any or all of the above, based on the back of Saturday, hoping for some form, that ain't pretty. Even though stretched, looking at the starting XI, I expected more. Got the impression, maybe the all-important second goal probably made things awkward. You don't want to throw the towel in. Despite not being there, you can often envisage the type of game. Shame, I wanted to get reacquainted with Chesham. Have another potential crack at that lot.
I guess being objective, we will learn far more from Saturday at the Met, (if we can get there)! I remain upbeat. They've had lots of games determined by the odd goal. I think they've struggled to replace Nesta and Max Westmore, (scoring freely at Westfield). What a foil he was for Mazzone, (scored twice tonight). Is this a London/Southern League recruitment thing taking hold? Interesting to see how they play compared to past visits
even the climate. Gales, monsoons, baking heat and lightening have all taken hold - usually on the same day. interesting to see if their notorious corner routine remains. Never seen a side drop the delivery so close to the keeper. Interesting to see how our lad reacts if crowded. A lot of past assumptions may or may not be present. I think it's a fascinating game. Highly unpredictable. Time to see what we're made of and hopefully walk away with a few more solid conclusions.

A tired performance last night coupled with player unavailability due to work commitments and fitness concerns. Not helped by one player apparently deciding to leave the club at 3pm and another saying he wasn't coming at 5pm.
Needham were very good, full value for their win. We looked leggy, made countless individual errors and it could have been more. Pleased to have been there to witness Shaun Lucien's free-kick though, that was beautifully taken.
The Southern League Cup is an absurd competition though, I know the league try and keep things regionalised as far as possible but there is the very possibility that sometime they could be left with a final of Lowestoft v Truro.
Put it behind us quickly and see what we can pick up in the next 7-10 days points wise.
