A ramble though history and welcome back Scott - 27 years and four months later

In August 1991, I signed two players on youth team forms, both of whom would spend the best part of 20 years in the Football League, their fathers having been team-mates at Claremont Road in the late 1970s/early 1980s. The boys had been good friends and, I remember them sliding into the “Omnimud” at Staines. The two were Scott McGleish and Darren Currie, their fathers James (Jock) and Paul – the latter coming up with Omnimud term (it was a couple of weeks after we had played Taunton on the Omniturf at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road).

Darren made his return half a dozen years ago, now it is Scott. By the way, neither Scott nor Darren actually made it as far as the Premier League but a third member of the squad did – Micah Hyde. Scott had, by the time Micah signed, left for Edgware where his father was manager. Micah, by the way, had played with David Beckham at Ridgway Rovers.

Brilliant news. I think I saw Junior Lewis at the Earlsmead playoff final and he still looked in shape, can we get him to sign forms again? And get Curtis Warmington to shore up the defence!
