Worthing - cheap train tickets

Now confirmed.
Those of you planning to travel by train, there are currently advance tickets available from £5 single if you book online.

Also if you miss out / don't book until just before it's possible to beat the system by buying a day return from Worthing to Victoria online and collecting from the machine. £18 vs £29.

Word of warning.
From my experience, collecting cheap advance purchase tickets from machines at Victoria is often problematic.
I've not travelled on a cheap online ticket from Victoria for more than a year but I'd say maybe 4 of the last 6 or 7 times I've done it, the machines have refused to release the tickets and I've had to queue at the ticket office, which can easily take 20+ minutes at noon on a Saturday. I missed my train once, having got to the Victoria more than 30 minutes before departure time. The ticket office re-issued a ticket for the next train at the same price, but that's no help if you're on the last pre-kickoff train.
The barriers normally refuse to recognise advance purchase cheapies - just in case any nefarious dastard might be attempting to use one on the wrong train.

For those.living near the southern train route, I have seen £8.50 advance each way singles on their website from Watford junction, harrow wealdstone and wembley central to worthing. I also found it as a cheap day return for £17 which would give you the choice of the hourly train.
There are groupsave deals available if there are 3 or more of you and kids for.a quid.

Many thanks for the cheap ticket tip, I am now driving to Watford Junction rather than drive all the way; I hadn't thought of using this route before having done either the 750 miles in a day or been fleeced by dirty dicks train set of £160 instead
