Billericay part 1
Views: 3730
Playing the Essexmen twice in quick succession so we better get used to them starting today. This one's a tricky one as they are playing free flowing football these days with their last 5 games having yielded 19 goals for and 5 against. They can have off days though like most in this league and had a shock home defeat to the worst team in the league, Grays, two games back. Yes there is a team worse than us in the league points wise at least!
Anyway this will be a tough encounter and I'm not really expectant of much from the boys in Green. Billericay seem to be a fairly hot and cold home side apart from their shock defeat to Grays they've often given the top sides a great game and beat them more often than not. They've beaten H&W at home as well as mauling Worthing 7 in a cup game and a slaughter of Needham 6 a few games back. Obviously when they turn it on they are pretty unplayable.
I expect a few goals in this encounter and I'm not expecting one of those games were neither attack can make an impression. I'm expecting us to score minimum one or a probable two goals today. If our defence turns up we can get something from today's game. However I expect them to be just too strong on the day and a 3-1 or 3-2 defeat is more than likely or possibly heavier if we can't handle their forwards.
A 2-2 will be a bonus and will give the lads confidence for the two home games to come which are probably both must wins or at least 4pts mimimum. A win will be highly unlikely since they won't wanna lose again after that Grays debacle so they'll be trying extra hard plus they know that we had them on the cosh until the fog came down last time so they know they have to watch out for our pacier players. One thing in our favour is that they don't have too much to play for although I guess they need to impress their manager to stay in the side since they'll probably be spending a lot of money in the summer to try to get out of the IPL.
Today I am paying my first visit to The Hive for Barnet v Cambridge at Camrose Ave Cambridge Utd is my second team after Man Utd and now Hendon of course haha! Come on Greens keep battling!

Well having come home and seen the result it's nothing unexpected. We lost as usual and to the same old failings. I just don't think the team is good enough. Gary's tried everything he can with loanees, new players, new tactics. He's tried it all but nothing seems to work bar the odd game where the team shows potential.
Our team seems to fail on two specific frailties. Lack of clinical finishing and a disability to defend our goal for any significant length of time.
People on this board have often said that we should keep faith in the team and stay positive in the face of mounting pressure and deficiency but it's time for those people to face facts. This team barring a monumental turn around is going to get relegated this season. Everything I suspected about our team and today's game came true pretty much. It's like you can read Hendon like a book. It's painfully obvious we couldn't handle their forwards and as usual we weren't really able to take our chances.
It's mathematically possible to stay up still but it's getting to the point where wins are needed and fast. Next two home games we need minimum 4 points and preferably 6. I must stop living in dreamland! Win both? Pull the other one. Leiston is gonna be very tough and Billericay is gonna be just as hard. The games against Leatherhead and Sudbury away are now must wins more or less. God luck with that! :-)
By the way I enjoyed my first visit to The Hive. It's a nice ground. Shame Barnet don't have too many fans. Of the 2,300 crowd I'd say more than half were Cambridge fans.

I suspect that Graham and the turnstile operator tomorrow will be the only people who will know the required ticket numbers. You'll have to turn up with your collection and see if one matches.

Indeed
Though I'll be quite grumpy if it transpires I don't have the stub
Damn things are so small and easy to loose to just chuck away with receipts

I've got 3 stubs in my wallet so won't take as long for me to get in.
I've got a feeling it's 23xx

Can't say I saw the goal was coming but we battled till the end and got our just deserts. Billericay weren't all that and it seems last week's 4-1 drubbing obviously flattered them. Came down with my mate finally and I told him him he brought us good luck. If I'd been there on my own it would have been the usual 0-0 like my last two games. But I turned to my mate with 20 minutes or so left and said Hendon will nick a winner. And lo and behold a breakaway and a great little finish and bedlam ensued in the massed Hendon ranks!! Let's enjoy this win and we're really in there fighting now and it's no longer a pipe dream to stay up.
The Leatherhead game is now MASSIVE. The pressure will be right on for both sides and even more so for them. If we draw it won't be a complete disaster and I'd take it if you offered it to me. Of course a win would be out of this world and heap pressure on the teams above like Canvey. Merstham still have loads of games in hand so they need to lose a whole heap before we can catch them. I must admit I'd have said we're down and out without these 6 points in the last 2 games but this gives everyone of a Green persuasion hope!
Let's go to Leatherhead and battle for the whole 90 and see what we can get against Bullard's mob!

Very well done indeed. I couldn't make it to the match last night but my heart & mind were at SJP. We have a little starshell of momentum going with us at the moment so let's keep it going lads: come on you Greens!

Folkestone and Kingstonian are bang in trouble too. We can do this.
