A question re: travelling across London

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
If I buy a rail ticket online (from Trainline for example) for a journey that uses mainline into London (eg. Marylebone) then requires a tube connection across London to another mainline terminal (eg.London Bridge), then mainline to Merstham (for example), would the ticket include the tube transfers (without specifically requesting a TFL Travelcard add-on)?

Usually it does, yes. The only way I'm aware of telling for sure is by checking to see if the actual ticket has a dagger symbol (†) on it - which doesn't help when buying online!

Ok Thanks. I shall go ahead and book and see what happens.

You should be okay - certainly I've never had any problems when booking tickets online and travelling through London, and I haven't had to specify that I want to include Underground connections.

Assuming the tubes are running, I would suggest your better bet is Met Line to Farringdon, train from Farringdon to East Croydon, then train to Merstham from East Croydon. Alternatively if you want to do it on Oyster card, the 405 bus runs from East Croydon (Wellesley Road) or Coulsdon South stations to Merstham.
