Premier League TV rights sold for £5.14bn. But it's ok readers, according to BBC news they are committed to grassroots football, and will spend £56m on 50 artificial pitches. So that's about one per county then. Way to go.

Surely real pitches, just artificial grass. And does grassroots football apply to 3G?

On an associated matter. For those of you who travelled to Lewes you might have read an article in their programme entitled 'Follow the money' by Barry Collins. This was about the ability of the local FA Associations to spend on matters other than investment in football. Barry concluded that his local FA received £328K in 2013 from the FA centrally ( a slice of the £4m in fines accumulated etc) but managed to spend £1 million in administration costs, mainly on 19 staff , including a bar manager ! A very interesting and illuminating article .Let's hope that the talents of the administrators of grassroots football are worth the costs.
