Witham - Pitch Inspection

There will be a pitch inspection by the match referee at around 3pm. I'll try to update the Message Board when I hear the outcome but keep an eye out for the Twitter feed and other social media too.

Nooo !!!! I'm only 10 mins from Witham. To be fair it was peeing it down most of yesterday evening. Oh well on to Bury. If anyone is making a day of it, I can recommend the Greene King brewery, tenner for a 90min tour.

If Truro City had not scored in the last couple of minutes and their FA Trophy tie had ended goalless, Witham would have been making the trip to Cornwall for the replay as the visitors refused to play the first game to a finish. The mileage for a round trip Witham to Truro is a little under 700 miles. At an average speed of 55mph, that is more than six hours each way. It's just as well the players are all full-time professionals …
Here are four comparisons of round trips from stadium to stadium in Britain for national teams.
Wembley Stadium to Celtic Park, Glasgow, and back, is about 800 miles
Twickenham Stadium to Murrayfield Stadium (Edinburgh) and back is about 820 miles
Wembley Stadium to the Stade de France near Paris round trip is 600 miles
Millennium Stadium to the King Badouin Stadium in Brussels (where Wales played on Sunday evening) is 750 miles round trip.

"the visitors refused to play the first game to a finish".
Are you sure about this, David? In our programme for the Worthing game it is stated that there will be "no replay - extra time/pensin first game"
Yes

If you see page 5 of the Worthing programme, it gives details of the replay, which would have been tonight. Apparently, the FA listed the Witham v Truro tie (and Leiston’s) as being the only two to be played to a finish on Saturday – the Witham press officer told me that Truro had refused and there would have been a replay. You pays your money …
