I am loving DB's Green and Gold feature and I am so happy David Hogwood is in it.
He was perhaps for me my first Hendon hero from the mid sixties onwards.
You wonder how such a fantastic play can ever be replaced but in the blink of an eye there was Gary Hand.
My mate worked with David at GPO (now days BT) after David moved to St Albans City. He told him they would "turn us over" before our home league game in 1972 and true to his word they beat us 2:0 thus ending our record breaking unbeateaten run and pretty much screwing up our chances of winning the league that year.
The following Saturday we stuffed them 4:0 in the London Senior Cup and of course won the Amateur Cup that year.
We had to wait another year before we won the league.

Also greatly enjoying Green & Gold. I reckon that by the end of the series, DB will have covered all players from the 1965 cup-winning team. Hope so. Best amateur team in the country at the time. Happy days.

There will be a large number of that team, but I don’t think all 11. I have set a limit of 50 players (plus a very small number of managers) and the time-frame is 50 years, I am going through every era and using exceptional goalscoring rates or multiple years of regular first-team service to get the elite. As for who will come, the only teaser I will give is the first player of 2014-15 will be someone whose son played for the club and he made more than 500 appearances himself.

I have 3 more Green & Gold articles to put on this summer, which will appear over the next few days. That then completes those that appeared in the programmes last season.
We'll continue the series on the website next summer, with those that appear in the programme during the coming season.

Just like to point out my appreciation of these articles, they've been a really good read over the summer (I don't buy programmes any more so first time I've seen them)
Well done to David B and thanks to Steve for posting them online.
