I don't think there's any way you could do it without getting a bus.

Trains are running, albeit infrequently, between Waterloo / Clapham Jn and Kingston direct - there's a number of buses that go between Kingston and Surbiton where you can pick up the train to Thames Ditton or Esher. Or, alternatively, there's an hourly service to Hampton from Waterloo / Clapham Jn and then a bus to Hampton Court Station and a walk down the road.
