Every game I've seen this season from July, I've left feeling utterly inundated with thoughts. Starting with the lad Ryan (again). First conclusion, I'm convinced he suits us wide. I have had profound issues with that as I do think in the second halfs he has an overriding tendancy to get drawn central leaving us exposed down the flanks. I think that issue is actually elsewhere on the pitch and as eluded last time I posted, I think we have potential solutions in our midst. Something we have had to address from when things fell of the cliffs last season. His introduction today, an immediate response - he looks vibrant, athletic.
I've come to a rather bizzare personal view that we could probably benefit with a really powerful dominating centre-half - no dis-respect to Luke. I think the balance of the side in central midfield has been our downfall. I want more creative onus out of Matty. The Maclarens complemented eachother - the problem I have is that of whomever partners Matty is either then yards in front or behind him. Opposing teams with short-passing games and banks of four crucify us. We get overran or stretched in the second period. I don't think we have yet resoloved the issue - time will tell. I think Luke could play in front of a back four and Corks alongside Matty. Or some concieved variety. Howie was stepping in today clearing the lines, a job often undertaken by Chaps. I think it requires consoldiating. I thought we closed down on the edge of our area very well today. We had been on the receiveing end of a lot of shots from these areas. Someone in the mould of Guri would be an interesting fit. Harking back to what we've seen to date, I think we now have to establish an identity. Promisingly, I can see us being able to adapt with flexibility between several formations as and when required. Learning more from each game by the bucket full. Our goal kicks today, poor challenges, giving away possession easily - again I think we can build more from the back. I can envisage us becoming quite a strong collective unit. There's so much to potentially write - As Boycs eluded to a few days ago when England were on the rack, no-one's questioning the talent - it's getting the best out of it consistently. Look what those lads did. So much to deliver.
We're on the right track - it won't be plain sailing - these lads are alright. Well done today - showed a bit of true grit.
