The phony war is almost over and the new season starts in less than 48 hours. Games are going to come thick and fast throughout August and September and although it is "a marathon, not a sprint", our early season performances and results in the League and, in particular, the FA Cup will go a long way to determining how the season pans out.

Those of you who attended the Trust AGM on Monday will have heard Jimmy Gray talk about the fact that he expects there to be a fair amount of player turnover in the first few weeks. Jimmy's ability to improve the squad will depend on player availability and on the Board's ability to bolster the playing budget.

As I said earlier on in the close season, as a fans-owned club, we are only able to spend what we - the fans - are willing and able to contribute and so once again it falls to me to ask you all to consider making a contribution to allow us to give Jimmy an improved budget so that he can put the best possible squad together and we can all enjoy this season as much as we did last season.

Please do what you can to be Jimmy's 12th man for next season. Every pound contributed to the 12TH MAN FUND will go directly to his budget.
