Can't blame them. That's what happens in football. More so at this level. The new Hendon manager will presumably want his own backroom team around him. So those in situ would be leaving anyway. Unless Freddie was offered the manager's job. Not something I can see happening.
Personally, I think a "big name" ex-pro will swing the Board and boost morale on the terraces.
