No sign of rain at Lowestoft yesterday - the match started with a hazy, setting sun, and the local concern was of the match being abandoned through fog. Certainly foggy when I drove home this morning - visibility no more than about 300 yards for about the first 20 miles, and foglights needed as far as Newmarket.

Several things transpired against us - a pitch that needed cutting and rolling (probably been too wet to do either), a referee that turned down three or four good penalty claims by us, our defence having little more idea of defending than we did against Worthing, particularly for the goals, and our playing a team who were much more secure defensively than Worthing, and who appeared to want the points more than we did collectively on the night.

Yes, we created more chances than Lowestoft, but apart from a Rian Bray header from a corner early on that was headed clear by a defender at least two feet in play, and a late header by Casey that was just too high, the only player to really threaten to score was Zak, who not only scored with a stunning left-foot strike, but had three or four other good attempts beaten away by the keeper. Given that he was our player involved in at least two of the penalty claims, it's hardly surprising that he was booked for dissent.

Lowestoft did their fair share of attacking, but tended to badly overhit their crosses. Having said that, both their scorers were left unmarked, and gave Tom no chance with their shots.

Please note that this is purely a personal view of last night's match, the views of other Hendon attendees may differ.
