Historically, our record in the opening league match of the season is patchy, irrespective of our pre-season performances. This includes a run of 24 seasons when we failed to win our opening league match, winning in 1968 with our next win coming in 1993.
Historically again, and based on our full league records against Tonbridge and Enfield Town, we were almost guaranteed to lose both our opening matches. Our records against them at the end of last season were:
v Tonbridge - P18, W2, D3, L13
v Enfield Town - P10, W1, D1, L8
Interestingly, we've never lost to Enfield Town in cup matches!
These records have to start turning in our favour sooner rather than later. Tonbridge's should have done on Saturday, let's hope that Enfield's does tomorrow night.
