For years/decades, Uche Egbe's stunning overhead kick against Leyton has left all other contenders trailling as the best Hendon goal that I have ever seen. Now, there is a serious new contender. Nico Muir's goal against Brightlingsea was simply outstanding. It was also instrumental in turning round a game that 3 minutes before was possibly slipping away until Dave Diedhiou's remarkable solo finish.

The greatest Hendon goal ever ... a totally impossible thing to judge.

The first question to ask is do you think an individual strike is better than a team goal. The second question to ask is does a team goat require one outrageous piece of skill, great pace, super pieces of passing or a combinaton of the three. The third question to ask is the importance of the goal in context of the club or the situation.

Question one brings into play, Paul Currie in the 1981 FA Cup at home to Banbury, or Freddie Hyatt at home to Sutton in the League in March 1998, both from the half-way line spring ? both entirely deliberate strikes.

Question two brings into play, Junior Lewis v Leyton Orient in the FA Cup on 25 November 1997.

Question three brings into play, Junior Lewis v Leyton Orient in the FA Cup on 25 November 1997. Tony Gibson?s goal, the fourth at Slough Town on 29 April 1986 to keep us up (Nick Sweetman?s 89th minute header at Hayes in 1994?95 was pretty important, but not as aesthetically pleasing).

I agree that such an expression opens up a multitude of options, but I did say specifically that it was one of the best Hendon goals that I have ever seen, not the most important, essentially one of those that I have enjoyed most. I have always opted for exceptional strikes that have not been bettered in all my watching. Obviously I have missed more than I have been lucky enough to see, but just occasionally a strike is of such superlative quality that it takes your breath away as happened on Saturday.

On the same theme, I will always remember Dermot Drummy for his late equaliser in the FA Cup at Banbury, not just a great strike but also in that case very important as well.

This 'greatest goal' can now be seen on HFCTV. It wasn't bad... Their equaliser was a cracker too!

Yes. Two strikes that deserved a much higher level.

Niko's shades it for me - there's absolutely no danger when he takes that ball down. But, as he turns, he then shows everything you need to be a top centre forward. Pace, power, strength and skill. The finish was from an acuter angle than I thought.
