Hornchurch game

Entertaining game and, for us, a good crowd considering it was a meaningless match. Gave the squad players a run out. Defence looked rather weak but that's not suprising considering the line-up. What suprised me was that we seemed to sit back and protect our lead at start of second half considering the strike force we had playing, All's well that end well though.

I guess part of the second half sitting back, was down to a bit of fatigue. Plus a few blokes who maybe aren't 90 minute match fit/sharp.

It looked like a 3-5-2 formation and certainly in the first half there was a real willingness to pass and move. Some of Aaron Morgan's runs from midfield were really hard to stop and both wingers/wing-backs offered a big threat.

Well done to all those making rare starts, they all had their good moments. I liked Michael Murray's delivery from set-pieces...very dangerous. Max McCann had a good first half on the ball, Roman showed a lot a skill on a bumpy pitch and Adam Wallace finished his goal very neatly.

But moment of the game for me was Leon's great finish after a rebound off the post. The relief to him was clear and it could prove to be a vital goal for him and Hendon as we approach the last few games.

Approached exactly as I wanted, treated as the dead rubber it was and a good rest given to a few players. Surprised Aaron and Kezie played if I'm honest, glad to see Max get 90 mins and Wallace get on the scoresheet. Stronger lineup Wednesday followed by rest everyone Saturday would be what I'd do next, then get geared up for Thursday week...

I guess Aaron and Kezie played simply because there was no-one else. Adam Wallace didn't turn up until half-time and came on 15 mins later! Sam Murphy, Taggs, James Fisher and Peter Dean were out injured, Oli and Leo couldn't be risked even though they were on the bench. Elliot Braithwaite was suspended(?) Ben was rested. Kevin had a breather after two hard games coming back from his hamstring injury. Casey is close to a return but couldn't be risked. Scott was sub but remained seated!!

As you say, a much stronger XI is expected tomorrow night.

PS: Max had a good game on the ball in the 1st half and did a lot of covering in the 2nd half.

Yes - Elliott Brathwaite was suspended for accumulating ten bookings. He will miss tonight (London Senior Cup doesn't count towards suspensions) and Saturday, but will be available for the play-offs.

Ben looked as though he'd picked up a knock on Saturday as he took a few goal kicks left-footed and had Brathwaite take at least one as well. Hopefully that's not too serious though.

As Deadman says, we literally were down to the bare bones. I don't think we'd have seen Michael Murray (as good as it is to see him back in a Green shirt), Dan McNicholas or Adam Wallace had we not been missing so many players through injury. That they could all come in (in Wallace's case at extremely short notice) and contirbute to another win is a testament to those individuals concerned.

Gary's got a tough balancing act to do in the last couple of games managing players' fitness ahead of the play-offs. I can't imagine Harrow will be full strength tonight given that they still need a result at the weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were similar to Monday.
