OK - who now regrets not going!

That's the League Cup bogey laid to rest - which gives us an additional chance to lay down the bogey against Enfield Town in the next round. That said, our cup record against them is played 5 won 5.

As I've mentioned on the website, as well as being our first league cup win for 8 years, it's also the first time we've come back from 3-0 down to win a game since April 1987. As it stands, that's the only other occasion we can come up with. We did come back from 3-0 down against Purfleet to draw 3-3 in April 1995.

There'll be an article on other comebacks that I've found and been told about in the past hour or so in a future programme (it won't be in Saturday's - which will be a double edition for the Margate and Billericay games).

It's certainly never boring being a Hendon fan! A huge well done to the squad for showing the character to turn round a game that apparently was running away from us rapidly.

We did the three-goal turnaround on Tuesday 31 August 2005

Wealdstone 4, Hendon 5 (and we were 4?1 down just before half-time). It was nagging at me last night, but I wasn?t sure that Wealdstone had a three-goal lead at any stage.

Last night was the second time that one of the Wealdstone substitutes, Dave Norman (Wingate & Finchley's Director of Football) had been involved in a match when Hendon came from three goals down to win

I always forget we were 4-1 down in that game at Wealdstone - in which Belal scored his first goal for the club.

And that game will surely always remain at the highest level of memorable Hendon matches. Belal was a crucial live wire in the performance. It was not just the result, but the quality of the Hendon performance and sheer excitement! Yes, 4-1 down was really ominous, but?.. I have to admit that this match had also escaped my memory in terms of coming back from 3 goals down. Are there more? Don't please anyone mention Epsom and Ewell away. That was quite the reverse.

was I believe, Hendon v Chalfont st peter in a cup game, I think we were 4-1 down at half time to win 6-4 with Mark Xavier coming on and scoring 4 goals???? I could be wrong about the half time score. Hopefully someone can verify this.

The first half an hour or so was horrendous. There was one side that looked as though they wanted to be there and they weren't wearing green. Three poor goals conceded and it looked very much as though it would be business as usual in the League Cup.

However, once Max netted, things changed. A couple of minutes later Peter Dean was cleaned out in the penalty area when through on goal - the red card was right, and Sam Murphy squeezed the penalty underneath the goalkeeper. To be honest, we should have been at least level then at the break as two or three decent chances went begging.

After the break, as you'd expect we were applying a lot of pressure. Wingate managed the game quite well with 10 men and had a few moments on the break. Leon got his obligatory goal, ending his drought before the winner late on when the Wingate number 8, within a minute of hauling Kezie down inside the box and somehow winning the free-kick, glanced Ryan Palmer's cross inside the near post.

It could legitimately have finished 9-9. Fantastic entertainment, and you have to credit the character, once again, of the players for fighting back. The red card may have helped, but there were suggestions beforehand that we were clawing ourselves back into the game.

Onto Saturday.

Fellow antique members like me will also remember the incredible comeback at Highbury back in the sixties when Hendon famously came back from 3-0 down to a more than useful Arsenal team to win 4-3 thanks to a David Hyde hat-trick - oh happy days!

The comeback to which Mike refers, against Arsenal at Highbury, was exactly 50 years and 1 week ago, 8 October 1964. I was six and knew nothing about it at the time.

I do, however, consider myself to be an antique. Every morning when I awaken, fine bone china appears to be a great deal more robust than I feel!
