Kick-off time Saturday?

Over on the Non-league matters site it denotes kick-off times are being put back across our sphere due to the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster to 3.07pm. Of course, not wishing to appear in any way disrepectful, I was wondering if this notion has any validity as from a purely selfish standpoint those mere seven minutes make one heck of a difference to my proposed first visit to Canvey and does appear to potentially scupper things?

I can re-jig my train journey leaving later - even with any proposed delay to kick-off. Any confirmation would be appreciated as I can further co-ordinate proceedings.
I have checked the taxis - 15-20 minutes at around a tenner (from Benfleet). There are buses as per the club website.
I spoke to some lads of whom had to leave Lewes early in order to get the last train.
All good fun!

Thanks for the heads-up - it really does make a difference.
Talking of supporters and their quandries, just read up on Alex and Joyce and their milestone.
The taxi journey's, the constant scheduling of routes for wheelchair access, and sheer determination is admirable. Alex if you should read this - you owe me a pint!
As for the lads still in the very much in the mix - several teams above yet to clash.
The lads resolve has surpassed my expectations, the motivations of the staff and the lads own mental strength is clear for all to see.
Looking forward to the next challenge.

I've often said this when minute's silences etc have taken place before, but what on Earth have Canvey Island and Hendon got to do with the Hillsborough tragedy? In my opinion minute's silences should be reserved for when someone connected to either club has passed away (as we had at Lewes), or in the case of Hillsborough, the tributes should be at Anfield, Hillsborough, and Nottingham Forest who were the opposition that day.

Not much to add to that Paul, but I completely and utterly agree. I realise that it's the 25th anniversary of a horrendous tragedy, but it has and has had no relation, or bearing on either Hendon or Canvey Island.

Ironically Liverpool's match is a 1.37pm kick off (on Sunday), so their game will actually be in progress during the fateful few minutes following 3pm when everyone else has to hang around waiting. Ridiculous.
It was a terrible tragedy, and it could have been any other club's supporters involved, so I have no problem with a customary minute's silence preceding all football matches, but that would be sufficient. It seems in this day and age that everyone has to outdo what has gone before and make these sort of things appear more grave and more momentous than anything similar that has gone before.

On the day of the Hillsborough tragedy, the score at Claremont Road was Hendon 2, Dulwich Hamlet 1. This was a match that paled into insignificance as the news from Sheffield filtered down the airwaves to the Claremont Road terraces. I never asked any of the players if they knew what had happened in Sheffield as the match was in progress, but the game was passionless for most of the second half. I do remember staying behind after the game and spending about 5 hours in the Claremont Road bar getting absolutely blasted with two or three Hamlet fans, but it was drinking for drinking's sake in a maudlin way.
I have also spoken to the match referee at Hillsborough and he was hugely critical of the authorities for not keeping him aware of the things going on. He stopped the match because of fans on the pitch, thinking it was a violent incident, and didn't know of the tragedy until a little later. Had he been even remotely aware of the crush, he would never have kicked-off.
All football fans were affected by the tragedy, but I do agree that forcing clubs to kick-off seven minutes after the scheduled time is not the way to do it. If clubs wish to something, that is up to them. Of course, there are quite a large number of clubs ? four of the highest-profile being AFC Wimbledon, Enfield Town, FC United of Manchester and Hayes & Yeading United - which weren't even in existence in 1989 but will be kicking-off late.
