Does anyone remember Cecil Smith? Has anyone got any stories about him? His granddaughter has been in touch and we would love to tell her some stories, if we can.

Also does anyone have the full footage of the 1960 Amateur Cup Final? Big ask I know but just a punt.

I am not sure if this is going to be of any help.

The only C Smith listed in the former Hendon players is plain C Smith, who played two matches, on 17 and 24 September 1921.

C Smith?s debut was an Athenian League fixture away to Luton Clarence, a match we lost 2?0, and the second was a 3?0 home win (at Farm Avenue - we didn't move into Claremont Road until five years later) against Barnet in the FA Cup, in which he scored. Reg Kirby and Cecil Wise got the other two goals.

It may well be him. All the young lady has said is that she thinks he was on the board. Not sure of how long ago. There is a photo of him. I will see if someone can upload it here. His face may jog a memory.

From an archive perpective I have most match reports from 1908 to 1964. Can only endorse the above with an additional appearance in the following season in a London Senior Cup tie in a 0-4 loss at Cheshunt.
It is likely that further appearances were made at around this time as team line-ups are not complete - however he does show up in a preliminary reserve team line-up, (not confirmed) in the earlier season of 1920-21. He also played in a pre-season warm-up trialist game for the 1921-22 season and the article dipicts him as a member of the 'old guard' suggesting previous involvement.
Re:- the Barnet game - he provided the cross for the second goal and scored the third in the closing stages.
There was also a Lewis F Smith who played frequently in the same period - related? He left Hampstead for Folkestone FC in 1925 only to return to make further minor contributions for the reserve XI. Also had a trial with Aston Villa in 1922-23 and represented the Athenian League on a couple of occasions.
I am gradually building up full past player bio's as I plod on. It's very much a work in progess.

The rather poor quality video clips of the 1960 final that I nicked for my YouTube clip came from the Kingstonian website. You could try Ali Kazemi on their message board to see if he has any more footage but like you say its a long shot.

Top man. Thank you very much. The footage is for a relative of Roy Widdowfield (?). Roy played for Hendon in the game. Will give Ali a try. Cheers.

1960 Cup Final

The 1960 Amateur Cup Final was Ron (not Roy) Widdowfield's sixth appearance for the club out of his career total of 11. He was a Royal Navy man, as was his chief competitor (Derek Godwin) for the number 2 shirt in the final. Both joined, I think, from the Gosport/Portsmouth area and both happened to make their debut on the same day - 12th December 1959, wearing number 2 and number 3.

John Rice, if you're in touch with Ron's relative again, would you please try to get Ron's full name and date of birth for the club archive? Doesn't matter if you can't, but it would be great if you can.

Ron's full name was Ronald Widdowfield. His date of birth was 11.12.1934.
Sadly he passed away 20.09.16, just over a week ago, yet will be remembered with love by his family.

Apologies for getting the name wrong. I tried to memorise. Poor on my behalf.

Chris, I will certainly try. Thank you for the information.
