In August 1991, I signed two players on youth team forms, both of whom would spend the best part of 20 years in the Football League, their fathers having been team-mates at Claremont Road in the late 1970s/early 1980s. The boys had been good friends and, I remember them sliding into the ?Omnimud? at Staines. The two were Scott McGleish and Darren Currie, their fathers James (Jock) and Paul ? the latter coming up with Omnimud term (it was a couple of weeks after we had played Taunton on the Omniturf at Queens Park Rangers? Loftus Road).

Darren made his return half a dozen years ago, now it is Scott. By the way, neither Scott nor Darren actually made it as far as the Premier League but a third member of the squad did ? Micah Hyde. Scott had, by the time Micah signed, left for Edgware where his father was manager. Micah, by the way, had played with David Beckham at Ridgway Rovers.
