Thank you Elliott

It is very sad to read that Elliott Brathwaite has been forced to retire. He has been under surgeons’ knives all too often and he showed incredible strength of character in coming back after all those knee reconstructions.

It would be great if we could keep Elliott on in some capacity because although it was only 97 games, Elliott was a rock in our 2014–15 annus mirabilis. I especially remember his winner in the Robert Dyas Cup semi-final against Margate when having had one goal disallowed I believe incorrectly, he smashed home a header and as he ran away in triumph he glanced at the referee almost daring him to disallow that one.

I was too young to fully comprehend the strength and domination of the Hendon teams in the early 1970s, so the 2014–15 season has to be my favourite following the Greens. The club record of 25 games unbeaten between the dire defeat at Peacehaven at the end of January and the awful day of the Premier Divison Playoff Final, there were very few occasions when we looked like losing and Elliott was giant part of it (literally and figuaratively).

Thank you Elliott and good luck in what ever you do in football in the future.
