I expected to come home tonight to a headline along the lines of there being Something rotten in the state of Denmark Hill. Shakespeare aside - credit to the staff today - tough ask.
My bone of contention the left flank, finally appears to have been confronted. Arthur looks like a lad of whom demonstrates the right qualities. Early doors both he and Casey under immense pressure coped well. I thought Casey was, and frankly usually is, in that covering role excellent. Those lads put in a shift. We need to replicate that on the other flank. Whilst both flanks are not totally functional it's obvious progress. Stronger down the middle. Interesting to see how the front pair shape up. Resulting in better link-up play. We looked more stable with players operating in their natural positions. Plenty of room for improvement and hope going forward.
I believe we have made mistakes. The gaffer noted post Whyteleaf we need a centre-half. The early formation, the way we started against Worthing set the tone. The middle of the park. Today for me personally was the first semblance of a genuine turning of a new leaf. As with the new year it looked a tad more transformational.
Let's hope this develops into something tangible at home. Merstham without an away win - time to push on.
Something at last to pin our hopes on.
