In the main it looks to be the relegated Conference South teams that are charging the higher prices.

I imagine this is either to fund existing hefty contracts or to support the cost of a promotion push back to the higher level.

My impression last season was that Merstham were splashing the cash on players and look to be continuing in the same vein this season. Today's Pitchero news reveals that they have signed Xavier Vidal. He was one of Dulwich's best players and was signed by Welling while they were in the Conference National. Apparently he was out on loan last season to Hemel Hempstead.

I imagine Merstham must have some wealthy backers to afford this sort of outlay and presumably will be going for promotion this season.
