We've had similar experiences at Dulwich:
2002/3, occupied a guaranteed promotion place with four games to go, but took just one more point and missed out.
2003/4, again occupied a guaranteed promotion place with four games to go but took just two more points and missed out, losing a cross-divisional play-off to Wealdstone on sudden death penalties.
2013/4, second with four games to go (i.e. pole position for home advantage in the play-offs) but took just four more points a missed out altogether.
I suppose someone must be bagging a few wins from these "extra" matches!
